Pipefitter versus plumber
Plumbers often work on water, drainage and fixture systems in residential and commercial buildings. Steamfitters and pipefitters more often handle higher-pressure or industrial process systems. Job titles overlap, so compare the duties.
Apprenticeship and certification
The usual route combines registered apprenticeship hours with technical training. Trade certification requirements differ by province. Steamfitter/Pipefitter is a Red Seal trade, allowing qualified certificate holders to pursue the endorsement through the interprovincial exam.
Safety tickets employers may request
Depending on the site, postings may request WHMIS, fall protection, confined-space, elevated work platform, first aid or site-specific orientation. These do not replace trade certification.
Resume evidence
Name the systems and materials you know: carbon steel, stainless steel, grooved pipe, steam, process piping, boilers or fire protection. Include shutdowns, testing and drawing interpretation.
NOC and immigration planning
Use NOC 72301 only when your main duties substantially match the official description. Immigration programs apply separate rules for work experience, language, job offers and admissibility.
